In the last part of our 2021 Aquabike Season Review we take a look at the races with the smallest and biggest winning margins. Last year we saw some quite impressive performances with comfortable victories and also races with only a few seconds between first and second place. We show you the closest and clearest wins in aquabike races in 2021.

In men´s aquabike racing we had two races which were decided by a margin of only three seconds. Matt Smith finished the standard aquabike at the Northumberland Triathlon in May just 3 seconds ahead of Kris Whitelaw while Francesco Da Re grabbed the victory from Alex Watson with the same time gap at the middle distance race at the Festival of Endurance at Hever Castle. At the same event we also had a pretty close decision in the long distance race. After more than five hours of racing it was Freddy Skarbek who took the win. Stuart Mackay slipped over in the mud in T1 – and so the race win slipped away by only 39 seconds.

About ten minutes behind the race for the third spot on the podium between two other Belgian athletes was even closer. Karlien De Waele grabbed the third place just one second ahead of Daphné De Graeve.

For this statistics we only counted races with at least 10 finishers. And it was two races in Austria who saw the most dominant performances. At the middle distance aquabike race in Podersdorf it was Patrick Wisinger who showed an impressive performance, taking the win by more than 20 minutes. At the standard distance aquabike race in Neufeld it was David Zechleitner who put more than 18 minutes into the runner up. But probably most notable is Adam Lambrecht´s win at the Aquabike World Championships in the Netherlands last September. In a starting field that certainly contained some of the best aquabike athletes in the world he took the win with an impressive margin of more than 16 minutes. A well deserved victory and a well deserved #1 in the Aquabike Rankig Europe.
