New #1 in Men´s Aquabike.World Ranking

Aquabike World Ranking
2023-05-16

The Long Distance World Championship in Ibiza was the biggest aquabike race since the 2019 World Championships in Pontevedra. Not only because of the big number of starters, but also because of the quite demanding course there were big points to grab for the best athletes in the race (read more about how points are calculated). So it´s no surprise that we saw big changes in the Aquabike.World Ranking after the race. All athletes inside the top 10 were competing in Ibiza. But it´s not the new World Champion who is now holding the top spot in the rankings.

2023 Aquabike World Championships Ibiza Race Report

Multisport World Championships 2023 Ibiza
2023-05-12

186 male and 127 female athletes finished the Long Distance Aquabike Championships last Sunday in Ibiza. After smaller fields of starters in the previous editions this was the biggest aquabike race since the 2019 World Championships in Pontevedra (where they will again be held in 2025). After the 3 km swim athletes had to tackle a quite demanding 116 km bike course under perfect weather conditions – except maybe for the wind which certainly didn´t make the bike leg easier. The race was perfectly organized – apart from one little (or maybe not so little) thing. But more about that a bit later…

Would you rather race for money or for glory?

European Multisport Championships 2023 - Menen, Belgium
2023-01-23

It might sound weird to ask this question on an aquabike website. As aquabike athlete you have some chances to race for glory at National Championships but also at European and World Championships. There is however no option to race for money. But there will be one exception in 2023.

2022 Aquabike Season Review, Part II – Some Statistics

2023-01-11

In 2022 we had 871 aquabike races taking place worldwide. The biggest number – not very surprising – in the United States, with a total number of 542 races (83 more than in 2021). We had 127 races in the UK (+22), 61 in Canada (+48), 42 in Australia (+13), 24 in New Zealand (+8) and 15 in Spain (+10). As pleasant as those growing numbers are you should keep in mind that in 2021 the racing season still was a bit shortened due to covid restrictions. This is especially the case in Canada where the 2021 racing season started pretty late.

A total number of 7365 athletes finished an aquabike race. That´s 34% more than in 2021. The share of participating men and women didn´t change much. With 55,8% male aquabike finishers we had a slight shift towards the male side here (55,6 % in 2021). The explanation is probably that we had quite a few new aquabike races in countries where the share of male aquabikers is much bigger in general, which is especially the case in southern and eastern Europe. In the following chart you can see the different distribution in agegroup of male and female athletes.

2022 Season Review Part 1
2023-01-10

871 aquabike races in 25 countries (including six new countries on the Aquabike.World map), national aquabike championships in 12 countries (3 new), the first ever standard distance aquabike World Championships and thousands of happy faces on the finishline, many of them finishing their first ever aquabike race. That´s the summary of the 2022 aquabike racing season.

In early 2021 in some countries many events still had to be cancelled. So 2022 marked the first full racing season for many athletes after the pandemic years. Multisport racing was back in full operation mode and all international championships could take place as planned.
