In 2020 the European Multisport Championships take place as part of the Challenge Walchsee in Tyrol, Austria. This event is quite well known for it´s beautiful scenery.

The start of the Aquabike event will be at the same time as the middle distance triathlon race and contains – just like the middle distance triathlon – of a 1,9 km swim in the Walchsee and a 90 km bike leg which is quite hilly, but without any major climbs as you might would expect in the middle of the Tyrolean Alps. But it nevertheless sums up to 1.140 meters of elevation gain, so it´s everything else than flat.

  1. Gorgeous landscape - almost too beautiful to race 😉

This review was submitted for ETU European Multisport Championships Walchsee 2021

Year of participation: 2016   I participated in Triathlon

I started 2016 at the Triathlon European Championship in Walchsee. We had a rolling start, so the swim in the clear freshwater lake was easy and fun. The transition zone was an unique expierence, because every athelte was given a supporter to help them get changed (wetsuit, sun protection,…). The transition zone offered enough space and was easy to orientate. The bike course consitsts of two laps of 45 km each. It is beautifully idyllic with not too few meters of altitude (1140hm), but also partly narrow and curvy. The nice thing is, you often have opposite areas, so you can see and follow your comrades :-). The run split afterwards was also pretty good – 4 laps around the wonderful lake. The best thing, I ever expierenced was the finisher buffet – there were so many differernt offers – starting from soups, pizza, to a lot of differrent pastries and sweets. If I have to sum it up in one word, it would be – AMAZING 🙂
